You can download a sample issue of The Quick Answer from this page. The sample issue is an Adobe Acrobat Portable Document Format (PDF) file. It's about 400K and should take only a few moments to download over a 56K modem.

Issues from 1995 onward are available as Acrobat Reader PDF documents. Issues from June 1990 through December 2001 are optionally available in the printed version.

In order to view (and optionally print) the sample issue, you'll need Adobe Acrobat Reader 4.0 or later.

You can download Acrobat Reader free of charge from Adobe's Web site using the hyperlink below. (Note: the link may have changed after this writing.)

Be sure to select the correct version of Acrobat Reader for your PC's operating system.

Follow these steps after you've installed Acrobat Reader and after you've downloaded the sample issue of The Quick Answer:

  1. The sample issue is in a self-extracting executable file (for example, QANE0101.EXE). Simply run the file (double-click on it in Windows Explorer or use the Start | Run command box) to extract the PDF file.
  2. Start Acrobat Reader.
  3. Click on the File menu, then click Open.
  4. Navigate to where you saved The Quick Answer .PDF file.
  5. Double-click on the file to open it.

With Acrobat Reader installed on your computer, you can optionally double-click on the .PDF file in Windows Explorer to start Acrobat Reader and display the file.

You can optionally print The Quick Answer issue from Acrobat Reader on a laser printer or good quality inkjet or bubblejet printer.

Feel free to play around with
Acrobat Reader's many features:

Zoom in for a closer look. Zoom out to view the whole page.

Use the hand cursor to scroll up and down the page.

Use the arrow icons to "turn pages," or to jump to the first or last page of the issue.

Use Acrobat Reader's search capabilities to find words or phrases anywhere in the issue.

Use its text selection tool (the icon with the "ABC" on it) to copy text to the Clipboard to paste into Q&A. Here's how:

  1. Click on the text selection icon.
  2. Hold down the Ctrl key while dragging a selection box over some text or programming code.
  3. Click Edit / Copy (or press Ctrl-C) to copy your selection to Windows' Clipboard.
  4. Start Q&A and switch to window mode. (Press Alt-Enter from full screen mode.)
  5. Open a blank Write screen or empty database field.
  6. Click the Paste icon on the toolbar at the top of the Q&A window (or press Ctrl-V) to paste the text.

(If there's a problem with pasting, you probably have "Fast Pasting" turned on. In Windows, quit Q&A, right-click on your Q&A icon on your desktop, and select Properties from the pop-up menu. Click on the Misc tab, uncheck the Fast Pasting checkbox, then click OK.)

Print some pages or the entire issue by selecting File / Print.

You'll find Acrobat Reader easy to use—and fun!
